---- — Deacon Charles Sadler, “Uncle Charlie”, “Cadillac Charles”, age 83, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 6:05 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Clarksdale, Miss. He married Lorraine (Barnett) on Oct. 18, 1980, in Mt. Vernon, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

Charles is survived by his wife, Lorraine Sadler of Mt. Vernon; children, Shirley Oliver and husband Don of Chicago, Johnnie Lacey and wife Renee of Chicago, Ava Jean Hayes of Columbus, Ohio, Rachel Patterson of Chicago, Bridget Barnett and fiancé Marcus Mitchell of Mt. Vernon, Jermaine Barnett and fiancé Leah Trimble of Mt. Vernon, Monica Owens of Atlanta, Michelle Sadler of Chicago and Jerone Sadler and fiancé Gabriel Williams of Marion; two special children he raised, Lakesha Nance and Excel Woods; and a host of brothers, sisters and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Gertrude Sadler; son, Charles Sadler Jr.; and several brothers and sisters.

Deacon Charles Sadler was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon where served on the Deacon’s Board for over twenty years and currently served as chairman. He was also instrumental in the construction of the New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Charles was known as Uncle Charlie, Junk Man to many people in the area. He worked in demolition of homes, removal of scrap metal and car hauling. He also worked for many years at Shapiro Brothers in Mt. Vernon.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (1015 Conger Avenue Mt. Vernon) with Pastor, the Rev. Lawrence James, Assistant Pastor Willie Green and Associate Pastor James Seals officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn.

Visitation will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.
