Murl L. Hays, 83, of McLeansboro, died 1:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro.
He was born March 7, 1930, in Salem, the son of Edgar and Bertha Cruthis Hayes. He married Dolores Conley on June 1, 1949 in Mt. Vernon; she survives in McLeansboro.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary Hays and wife Mickey (Henson) of Paris, Ky., Jack Hays and wife Sandy (Renn) of McLeansboro and Terry Hays of McLeansboro; a daughter, Susan Combs and husband Eric of McLeansboro; four brothers, Charlie Hays and wife Dee of New Liberia, LA., Elwood Hays of Salem, Jerry Prosise and Missy of Hoopeston and Paul Prosise and wife Sharon of Lone Grove, Okla.; two sisters, Nola Booher and husband Robert of St. Elmo and Katherine Booher of Salem; a brother-in-law, David Booher of Salem; four grandchildren, Josh Hays and Ryan Hays, Chad Hays and wife Sarah and Brittani Combs; great-grandchildren, Carter and Kate Hays and Justin and Jarrett Kidder; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Karroll and Donald Hays; and nephews, Keith Booher.
Mr. Hays was an oil field pumper. He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge in McLeansboro, and a member of Harvey's Point Christian Church, Carter.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Harvey's Point Christian Church, Carter with Pastor Jim Burleyson officiating. Burial was at Harvey's Point Church Cemetery, Carter.
Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
