Marvin H. Clemens, age 88, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
Marvin was born the son of Arthur and Roma Clemens on Oct. 19, 1925, in Mt. Vernon. He was united in marriage to Opal E. Boykin on Dec. 23, 1945, in Mt. Vernon; she preceded him in death on March 11, 2011.
Mr. Clemens served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Marvin was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Marvin was a lifelong truck driver. After retirement he worked at the Indian Hills Golf Club. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Eagles Lodge 2791 and a lifetime member of the Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge 755.
He is survived by his son, Steven Clemens and wife Sandra of St. Genevieve, Mo.; four grandchildren, Mike Clemens and wife Trina of Mt. Vernon, Kari and husband Justin Joseph of Toledo, Ohio, Mark Douglas Clemens and wife Becky and Kassie Ray Clemens both of St. Genevieve, Mo.; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Madison, Tyler, Kaden, Steven and Khloe; brother, Bob Clemens and wife Betty of Decatur; sister-in-law, Janet Clemens of Decatur; and also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal; brother, Richard Clemens; and two sisters, Donna Watts and Wilma Sandy.
Funeral services for Marvin H. Clemens will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Joe Bob Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
