Donald Wessling, 64, of Radom, passed away 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at his home in Radom.
Donald was born Dec. 7, 1949, in Breese, a son of Edward Bernard and Cecilia (Loepker) Wessling. He married Nancy (Echols) on July 27, 1992, in Cadiz, Ky., and she survives in Radom.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Josh Hughey and fiance Kourtney Kurwicki of Ashley and Jeremy Hughey of Okawville; brother, David Wessling and wife Nadine of Breese; four sisters, Gerry Voland and husband Terry of Florissant, Mo., Linda Nolte and husband Bob of Iuka, Mary Miller and husband David of Carlyle and Anita Wessling and fiance Mark of St. Charles, Mo.; and a special grandchild, Sawyer Hughey of Ashley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jackie Wessling.
Donald served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a small engine mechanic and also worked for Gateway FS in DuBois until failing health. He was a member of the VFW Post 9153 and the Frank Nowland AMVETS Post 148 in Waltonville. He loved camping and fishing on the Mississippi River at Grand Tower. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Catfish Fisherman. He loved to tinker with his old Ford tractors, and especially loved spending time with his grandson Sawyer. He was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville with military honors provided by American Legion Post 141.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service time Wednesday at the Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville.
