Jim Scott Sr.

---- — Jim Scott Sr., 75, of Mt. Vernon, died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Herrin, the son of Joe H. and Nellie (Howard) Scott. He married D’Ella Rogers on Dec. 31, 1983, in Mt. Vernon, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Jim Scott Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Rickey Lee Scott and wife Judy of Mt. Vernon, Steven Wayne Scott and wife Andrea of Waltonville, Troy Stewart of Mt. Vernon and Kevin Stewart and wife Irene of Mt. Vernon; seven daughters, Karon Jean Pearce and husband Tom of Mt. Vernon, Donna Snow and husband Charles of Mt. Vernon, Nancy Isaacs and husband Mark of Mt. Vernon, Jeannie Bragg and husband Keith of West City, Jennifer Scott and Billy McGrady of Bonnie, Mary E. Scott and Roger Hopkins of Ina and Tonya Stewart and spouse Tonya of Bonnie; a brother, Michael Lee of Boston; 32 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and a host of many friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene Scott and Joe Henry Scott; one sister, Nora Collins; and three grandchildren, Cassell Ray Stewart, Billy James Stewart and Calvin Lee Stewart.

Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59, worked at the Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory, General Radiator in Mt. Vernon and later owned and operated the Spot Tavern as well as many other Mt. Vernon businesses including Scott’s Sewer and Septic. He was an auctioneer and volunteered his auctioning talents to the Toys for Tots program. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376, Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141, Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club, Turner Roehm AMVETS Post 4, Mt. Vernon Eagles Aerie Lodge 2791, Mt. Vernon Elks (B.P.O.E.) Lodge 819 and the Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge 755 (L.O.O.M.).

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Ron Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
