Helen Sledge, 86, of Bluford, died at 5:52 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at St. Louis University Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1927, in Harmony, the daughter of Perry Franklin and Grace (Leuty) Sumner. On July 13, 1946, she married Walter R. Sledge, and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Harlan R. Sledge of Texico and Roland L. “Short” Sledge and wife Carol of Fairfield; one daughter, Renee Sisk and husband Ken of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Perry L. Sledge, two sisters and four brothers.
She attended Harmony School. She worked at Martin Foods as a cook, and also worked at The Garment Factory, and was a homemaker.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Orchardville Church in Orchardville with Pastor Roland “Short” Sledge and the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Orchardville Church.
