Gene C. Ayers, 84, of Champaign, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014.
He was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Harry and Lena (Colvin) Ayers. He married Juanita Morgan on June 1, 1952, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Terry, Curtiss, Kevin and Kim. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen; one grandson, Taylor; his parents; a brother, Bill; and a sister, Harriett.
He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business.
Gene is a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was on staff at the Physiology Department at the University of Illinois, retiring after 30 years. He attended Stratford Park Bible Chapel.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Stratford Park Bible Chapel, 2801 W. Kirby, Champaign. Pastor Ken Raymond and Pastor Jeremy Sander will officiate. Entombment at Grandview Memorial Gardens will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pregnancy Resource Center or Stratford Park Bible Chapel.
