Elmer William “Bill” Scott, 79, of Centralia, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Doctors Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem.
He was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Waverly, the son of Elmer Wilson and Alberta A. (Harrington) Scott. He married Phyllis Jenkins Sigwerth on April 20, 1991, and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard Scott of Bluford and Douglas Scott of Fairfield; five daughters, Linda Rogers of Sandoval, Peggy Rogers of Carmi, Theresa Hodgson of Crossville, Crystal Dicus of Carmi and Debra Rosenberger of Flora; stepson, Darrell Sigwerth and wife Phyllis of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; brother, James R. Scott and wife Phyllis of Jacksonville; sister, Janice Ranle and husband Terry of Chatham; two stepdaughters, Donnell Turrentine and husband Kevin of Mt. Vernon and Sherrell Graber and husband Dennis of Smithton; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John W. Scott; and two sisters, Barbara White and Judith Crouse.
Bill served in the U.S. Army from July 5, 1955 to May 3, 1957, was finance and insurance manager for several years at Joe Hotze Ford in Salem, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
In honor of his wishes, Bill will be cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.
