Derrell Edward Roeder, Sr., 94, of Waltonville, went to be with the Lord at 2:15 a.m. Feb. 6, 2014.
Mr. Roeder was born March 24, 1919, in Jefferson County, to Charles E. and Nellie M. (Dorris) Roeder who preceded him in death. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Roeder served his country with honor in both the Illinois National Guard and the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for Victor Dana Corp. in Robinson before his retirement.
He was an avid hunter and raised many champion beagles before failing health. He was well known for his generosity and helping others. His greatest joy was spending time with his many grandchildren.
Mr. Roeder is survived by his five children, Mrs. Sharon (Richard) Ossig of West Frankfort, Mrs. Gloria (Doug) Hinderliter of Waltonville, Mr. Derrell (Debbie Houser) Roeder, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Mr. Gary (Bea) Roeder of West Frankfort and Mr. Russell (Debbie) Roeder of Mulkeytown; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Irene Roeder; a great-grandson; five brothers, Lloyd, Russell, Virgil, Troy and Maxey Roeder; five sisters, Vivian (Roeder) Pigg, Thelma (Roeder) Rainey, Imogene (Roeder) Grant, Freda (Roeder) Garren and Pauline Roeder; as well as several nieces and nephews.
As per Mr. Roeder’s wished, he will be cremated. There will be no services. Interment will be at New Shiloh Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
