---- — Donald W. Dalby, 99, of Mt. Vernon, died 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at his home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Wednesday, July 15, 1914, in Sesser, the son of Alvin and Mazie C. (Leonard) Dalby. He married Ruth A. Foreman on Nov. 22, 1938, in El Paso. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2010; they were married for 71 years.
Donald worked for and retired from DeWitt Lumber Co. He and his wife were long time members of Hopewell United Methodist Church and he served as a trustee of Hopewell Cemetery for many years.
He is survived by three daughters, Judith Williams of Mt. Vernon, Janet Byars and husband Ed of Texico and Joyce Richardson and husband Ken of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Dee Allen, Gary Williams and wife Eileen, James Williams and wife Vonna, Mark Byars and wife Becky, Lori McGovern and husband Kevin and Ryan Richardson; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Leonard Dalby; three sisters, Thelma Beal, Rose Marie Green and Madge Hawkins; and son-in-law, Norman G. Williams.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bud Storey and the Rev. Mark Byars officiating. Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
