---- — Jewell Evelyn Minter, 99, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Fairfield, died at 9:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her home.

Jewell was born on Jan. 22, 1914, to Luna Otto and Ulla Maude (Hogue) Kifer in Steedman, Okla. She married Vernon Clay Minter Sr., who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan (Robert) Wilkes of Mt. Vernon and Verna (Gary) Locke of Senatobia, Miss.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Vernon Clay Jr.; five brothers; and four sisters.

She was a longtime employee of the Fairfield Gas Co. and had been a long time member of the Fairfield First Baptist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
