Viola Ruth (Palmer) Lusby, 84, of Centralia and formerly of Mt. Vernon and Dix, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
She was born May 24, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of John Alva and Mabel C. (Jones) Palmer. She first married Leon Vannatta on July 1, 1954, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 1971. She later married Lafayette “Lafe” Lusby on Sept. 20, 1972, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1989.
She is survived by a son, Tim Vannatta and wife Linda of U.S. Virgin Islands; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Palmer of El Cajon, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, Harley W. Palmer and Harlan “Sonny” E. Palmer; and two infant sisters.
Viola worked as a laborer in the Brown Shoe Factory and later a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be in Sursa Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hughey Funeral Home.
