Ruth Lankford

— Ruth Eloyse Lankford, 85, of Mt. Vernon, died 1:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Thursday, July 14, 1927, in Jefferson County, daughter of Birchel E. and Ruby (Fisher) Page. She married William E. Lankford on Dec. 24, 1944, in Jefferson County, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1979.

Ruth worked in the dairy department of IGA in Mt. Vernon for ten years. She was an avid and talented quilter, spending many hours nearly every day creating numerous quilted works of art in her lifetime that she enjoyed giving as gifts and donating to charities and groups to be auctioned. She was a past member of the Cedarhurst Quilting Group, Rend Lake Piecemakers Quilting Group and was currently a member of the Rose Lane Quilters and Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Lankford and wife Cheryl of Walnut Hill, Alan Lankford and wife Brenda of Belle Rive and Anthony Lankford and wife Toni of Dix; two daughters, Carollyn Blackwell and husband Loyd of Ina and Teri LeAnne McDonough and husband Tim of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Skylynn Blackwell and wife Tonya of Mt. Vernon, Starlynn Edwards and husband Rick of Ina, Shawn Lankford and wife Leah of Shiloh, Bridgette Howell of Benton, Jamie Nesler and husband Adam of Crossville, Stuart Lankford and wife Debra of Nashville, Jeremy McDonough and wife Ashley of Springfield and Mallory Lankford of Dix; two stepgrandchildren, Billie Jean Leuke of McLeansboro and D.J. Campbell of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Byron Page; three sisters, Myrna Capps, Beatrice Kent and Eva Page; one stepgrandson, John Campbell; and one great-grandson, Caleb Michael Howell.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Jimmy Bledsoe and the Rev. Joel Miller officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
