Billy Joe Campbell, 74, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Friday, June 10, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, the son of James Robert and Imogene Jewell (Kirk) Campbell. He married Trava Jo Strain on Oct. 29, 1958, in Mt. Vernon.
Billy worked as a boilermaker and was a union member of the Boilermaker Local 363 in Belleville. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He is survived by wife, Trava Jo Campbell of Mt. Vernon; son, Terry Lee Campbell and wife Jennifer of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Carrie Lynn Council of Dyersburg, Tenn. and Mary Ann Marlow and husband Kevin of Bluford; son-in-law, Randy Hill of Ashley; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Campbell and wife Vicki of Bonnie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cherri Hill; and three sisters, Carolyn, Linda and Patty.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn with the Rev. Dennis Myers officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
