The Rev. Gale Breeze, 72, of Bluford, went home to be with the Lord at 8:27 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home in Bluford with his family by his side.
He was born Monday, Aug. 11, 1941, in Bluford, the son of Lester W. and Meda (Miller) Breeze. He married Shirley Latta on March 10, 1962, at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Harmony.
Reverend Breeze was a farmer, a minister and was a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. His passion in life was witnessing to others and teaching about the Bible.
He is survived by wife, Shirley Breeze of Bluford; two sons, Brian Breeze and wife Linda of Bluford and Calvin Breeze of Bluford; daughter, Robin Keele and husband Todd of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Candace Meyers and husband Andrew of Mt. Vernon, Joshua Keele and wife Caitlin of Mt. Vernon, Luke Breeze of Bluford and Matthew Breeze of Bluford; two great-grandsons, Kaleb and Kayden Keele; two brothers, Ronald Breeze of Wayne City and Dean Breeze and wife Louise of Boylston; two sisters, Betty Albright of Mt. Vernon and Joyce Porter of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clifford, the Rev. Oran, the Rev. Donald and John D. Breeze; and one sister, Opal Blake.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Harmony with Brother Alan Smith officiating. Interment will be at Harmony Cemetery in Harmony.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the, Southern Harmony Cemetery Association or to Angels Cove Maternity Center or to Hospice of the Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
