Florence D. Bayer Casey, 96, of Mt. Vernon, died 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Saturday, Jan. 26, 1918, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Greathouse) Raney. She first married Otto Bayer on March 29, 1932, and he preceded her in death in 1973. She later married Howard Casey in 1974, and he preceded her in death in 1989.
Florence worked as the owner and operator of Bayer Grocery for 41 years. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by son, Danny Lee Bayer of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Kevin Bayer of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Denise Campise of Mt. Vernon; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Loretta Raney of Mt. Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three sisters, Lillian Henry, Virginia Buskool and husband Henry and Dorothy Dethrow and husband Ralph; and one brother, Arthur “Babe” Raney.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens chapel in Woodlawn with the Rev. David Shores officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. today at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens chapel in Woodlawn.
