Betty Burton Burns, 93, daughter of John Burton, Jr. and Allie Calvert, wife of Robert Burns and mother of Jim and John Burns, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014. Betty was living in Manor Care of Wilmette, Wilmette.
She is survived by her son, Jim and his wife Martha and her three grandchildren, Heather, Camille and James.
Betty was born in McLeansboro and was a graduate of McLeansboro High School and the Gem City Business School in Quincy. She lived and worked in McLeansboro as an abstracter at Deister, Ward & Witcher. In 1967, she moved to Chicago and began working at Chicago Title and Trust until her retirement at the age of 65. Betty loved to play the piano, expecially Boogie Woogie music. She also loved the California coast, having spent time there when her husband was stationed in Monterey during WWII and later with her son, John, who lived in Los Angeles in the 1980’s and 90’s. She also loved spending time with her three grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
Funeral service is set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Father George Mauck officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, McLeansboro following the service.
