Larry “Jake” Wayne Lyday Sr., 74, of Centralia Lake, passed away at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Larry was born Feb. 10, 1940, in Buckner, the son of Clarence and Dolly (Haggard) Lyday. He married Sheryl “Toni” (Keast) on May 17, 1980, and she survives in Centralia.
He is also survived by six children: Larry Lyday Jr. and wife Karen of Mt. Vernon, Debbie Harper and husband Michael of Denver, Michael Lyday of Mt. Vernon, Robert Lyday of Dix, Rich Lyday of Mt. Vernon and Chris Lyday and wife Meghan of St. Louis; three stepsons; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Carl Lyday; and three sisters, Ruby Mae Thurmond, Shirley Stafford and Blanch Bernice Sanford.
Larry was a Master Mason and a member of the Marion Lodge 130. He was also a member of the AAONMS Ainad Shrine in East St. Louis. He was a certified machinist troubleshooter working for several area printing presses. He loved sports including coaching Little League baseball and was a diehard Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Larry enjoyed spending time on Centralia Lake with family and friends.
Masonic funeral rites will be accorded by Marion Lodge 130 at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with funeral services immediately following with Mr. Randy Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.
