Edith Mae (Wilkerson) Austin of Hudson, Fla., passed away at 9:22 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Gulfside Hospice in Hudson, Fla.
She was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Hamilton County, to John Grover and Martha Pearl (Scrivner) Wilkerson. She married Estle Jerry “E.J.” Austin, a widower, Dec. 24, 1945, and he passed away in August 1980.
Edith is survived by sons, Donald Gene Austin and wife Connie and James Ray Austin and wife Joana; daughter-in-law, Peggy Austin; nine grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Joel, Matthew, Jamie, Joy, Jennifer, Courtney and Brandon; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, John D. Wilkerson; and sisters-in-law, Zana Belle (Trotter) Wilkerson, Mildred (Collins) Wilkerson and Lois (Wilson) Wilkerson. Edith was a much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews and a cherished friend to all that knew her.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband and their sons, William Lee Austin and Jerry Wayne Austin; her brothers, Gene, George, Bill, Glenn and Kenneth; and sisters-in-law, Noma Lois (Barbee) Wilkerson, Audrey Jo (Aydt) Wilkerson and Wanda Lee (Tennyson) Wilkerson.
Edith was quite active with few health problems and it was a common sight to see her working in her yard and tending to her many beautiful flowers. She was young at heart, enjoyed laughter and always had a positive attitude.
Edith was a member of Grace Bible Church and served in many roles within the church and was a life-long witness to her Lord and Savior.
A celebration of life service was held March 22, 2014, with interment at Memorial Park, St. Petersburg, Fla.
