Duane Allen Harre

Duane Allen Harre, 68, of Okawville, departed this life in the Memorial Hospital in Belleville at 2:13 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, after fighting cancer.

Duane was born on Sept. 22, 1945, in Covington, the son of Henry and Verdell (Reinhardt) Harre. He was baptized in the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Covington on Oct. 7, 1945, and confirmed at St. Luke’s on April 20, 1958. He was united in marriage to Ruth (Auld) Harre in Oakdale Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oakdale on Aug. 12, 1972, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Greg and Tara (Schmittling) Harre of Okawville, Dannon and Jill (Brammeier) Harre of Okawville, Kristen (Harre) and Dan Miller of Caseyville and Nicole (Harre) and Justin Heberer of Okawville; six grandchildren, Payten, Jacksen, Adysen and Jilien Harre and Bentley and Emelia Miller; two brothers, Ken and Geri Harre of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Don and Gerry Harre of Okawville; three sisters, Lois (Harre) and Leonard Obermeier of Okawville, Betty (Harre) and Norbert Hasheider of Okawville and Connie (Harre) Blair of Woodlawn; aunts and uncles, Arvie and Elsie Reinhardt of Breese, Bill and Joann Richards, Pearl Auld and Lloyd Patton, all of Nashville, and Paul and Phyllis Auld of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brody Miller; his parents, Henry and Verdell Harre; and his father and mother-in-law, William and Eileen Auld.

He attended Okawville High School and after graduation he served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a dedicated and devoted farmer on the family farm. Duane, along with his brother Don, received the Farm Family of the Year Award in 1989 from the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation Board. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville where he had previously served as an Elder. He served on the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation Board from 1978 until 1988 and on Land Use Council 13. Duane had served as a director on the board of the Tri-County Electric Cooperative in Mt. Vernon since 1994, having served as vice-president for several years and president for two years. He also served on the Southern Illinois Services Board in Marion since 2000.
