Clayton F. Braden, 79, of Nason, passed away at 7:06 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at his home in Nason.
He was born Monday, July 3, 1933, in Waltonville, to Bernard O. and Opal Mae (Phelps) Braden.
He married Loretta Parker in Ashley on Nov. 13, 1954. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2005.
Clayton worked as a custodian for Rend Lake College and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by a son, David Wayne Braden and wife Joni of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Carol Sue Meadows and husband Jimmy of Boyd, Betty Jean Shopinski and husband Rick of Nason, Dorothy Ann Durst and husband Larry of Chandler, Ind., and Peggy Lynn Kirkpatrick and husband Rickie of Bonnie; sisters, Terri Simon and husband Jim of Troy and Norma Jean Curtis-Reynolds of Mt. Vernon; a special friend, Linda Hoyle of Mt. Vernon; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents; his wife; and one sister, Bernadine Edmonds, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Ashley Cemetery in Ashley.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
