Pearl Lee Brown-Duncan, 76, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 10:07 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born May 3, 1936, in Greenville, Miss., the daughter of Johnny Brown and Lucinda (Davis). She married Bill Duncan in Mt. Vernon, and they later divorced. He preceded her in death.
Pearl Duncan was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she was involved in many church activities including Past President of Ushers Board, Mother Board and Kitchen Committee. She also had served as the Church Treasurer for many years. Pearl worked at the Best Inns in Mt. Vernon and later as a CNA for Addus Health Care.
She is survived by five children, Billy Brown and wife Ramanie of Tustin, Calif., Lee Vernon Brown of Carbondale, JoAnna and husband James Malone, Oscar Lee Brown and Josette Ann Brown, all of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Willie Gilbert of Kankakee and Michael McClain and wife Cynthia of Los Angeles; three sisters, Bobbie Davis, Doris and husband Ronald Cain and Teresha McClain, all of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Shaunee Brown, Nicole Brown, Keica Brown, Ashley and husband Stephen Whitelow, Adrienne Doggan and Darius Brown; six great-grandchildren; one uncle, Louis Davis of Indianapolis; two aunts, Jesse Mae Davis of Indianapolis and Ada Wilson of Detroit; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service for Pearl Duncan will be held at noon on Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church (1309 South 9th Street Mt. Vernon) with the Rev. Tim Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jimmie and David Ray McClain; and one sister, Gertrude “Kat” Gilbert.
