---- — Robert Lee Tindle, 83, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:10 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Friday, Nov. 22, 1929, in Peoria, the son of Charles W. and Alda (Buchanan) Tindle. He married Orlis Virginia Sanders on Oct. 18, 1955, in Shiloh, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2001. He married Dorothy Dyel on Nov. 21, 2008, in Mt. Vernon.

Robert was career military, serving as a police and security officer in the U.S. Air Force and retiring as a tech sergeant. He also spent six years in the National Guard and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy Tindle of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Sandra Tindle of Pocahontas, Ark. and Susan Reed of Pocahontas, Ark.; grandchildren, Luke Gasaway and wife Jennifer of Jonesboro, Ark. and Nathaniel, Whitney and Issac Reed of Jonesboro, Ark.; stepdaughter, Susan Stutts and husband David of Mt. Vernon; stepgrandchildren, Michael Stutts and wife Tonya of Mt. Vernon and Amy Stutts of Mt. Vernon; great-grandson, Carson Reed of Jonesboro, Ark.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Koby and Aly Stutts of Mt. Vernon, Haley, Isaiah and Alyssa Meyer, all of Mt. Vernon and Brandon Brush of Mt. Vernon; half sister, Margie Smith of Pomeroy, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; sister, Betty Ilbery; two brothers, Don Tindle and Charles “Chuck” Tindle; and stepson, David Dyel.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Phil Poe and the Rev. Paul Widicus officiating. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Woodlawn. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
