Emma Jane Smith Frick, 89, of Springfield and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Thursday, Aug. 14, 1924, in McLeansboro, the daughter of Willam A. and Ollie E. (Miller) Abbott. She married Charles D. Smith on Oct. 12, 1945, in Paducah, Ky., and he preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1978. She married Robert A. Frick on Jan. 25, 1985, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on May 6, 2002.
Emma was a cook at El Caprie Restaurant in Chester until retiring. She was a caregiver for her family members and was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by two sons, David Smith and wife Glendella of Chatham and Danny W. Smith and wife Bonnie of Chester; daughter, Glenda Mahan Alexander and husband Warren of Concord, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Denise Smith of Evansville, Ind.; grandchildren, Matthew Smith and wife Sarah of Ruma, David Smith and wife Judy of Florida, Shawn Smith and Macie Smith of Springfield, Melissa Doss and husband Jack of Cutler, Andrew Smith of Chester, Brian Smith and wife Stephanie of West Frankfort, Emily Mahan of St. Louis and Elmar Mahan of Illinois; brother, Bill Abbott of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Dale Smith; one grandson, Jerry Mahan; four sisters; and one brother.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
