Dwight “Gene” House, 91, of Mt. Vernon, died 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Saturday, July 15, 1922, in Piggott, Ark., the son of Guy and Sarah (Plumlee) House. He married Betty Ann Smith on Nov. 28, 1946, in Mt. Vernon. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1994.
Gene served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a carpenter and owner of Park View Mobile Home Park. Gene was a member of the Mt. Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 and First Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Lynn Tincher and husband Gene of Marion and Jeanne Sanson of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Carl Gene Mullinax of Springfield and Cory Tincher of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Quentin Mullinax; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. David Shores officiating. Entombment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
