---- — Madge Marie Free, 83, of Milledgeville, formerly of McLeansboro, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at St, Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Madge was born May 4, 1930, to Oscar and Veneta (Brake) Gaither. She married Robert Joseph “Bob” Free on July 20, 1946.

Madge operated an upholstery shop in Delafield for years before retiring. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were a joy to her and she loved them all. She loved to can, cook and care for her neighbors. Her garden was always the most colorful along the highway.

Mrs. Free is survived by her sons, Robert Michael Free and wife Linda of Milledgeville, William Leonard Free and wife Laurie of Sterling and Carl Sherwood Free and wife Jana of Waterloo; daughter, Angelia Meyer of Madison, Wis.; two sisters, Lena Ingram of McLeansboro and Betty Cowgill of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; one daughter, Dorothy Mae Free; one grandson, Scott Free; two brothers, Oscar Eugene Gaither and Bobby Gaither; and three sisters, Lauretta Rolf, Dora Mae Cholmeyer and Nina Bowers.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy May officiating. Burial will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery near Akin.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
