---- — Donald E. Bowers, 77, of Creal Springs and formerly of McLeansboro, passed away 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.
He was born May 31, 1936, in Peoria, the son of Claude Bowers and Edith (Carrol) Bowers. He married Delores Louise Erwin on June 27, 1954, in Dale.
He was a minister and a member of Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church in Marion. He loved hunting, golf and watching basketball. He loved the Cubs. Don was founder of the Marion Soup Kitchen, which is now the Ministerial Alliance Soup Kitchen. He pastored for over 50 years in Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee. He was on board for over 17 years at Fairfield Glade Vacation Resorts near Crossville, Tenn.
He is survived by wife, Delores Bowers of Creal Springs; two sons, Douglas Bowers (wife Paula) of Sedgewickville, Mo. and Dale Bowers (wife Julie) of Energy; two daughters, Diana Angell of Hurst and Denise Jones (husband Scotty) of Kevil, Ky.; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams, Breanna Bright, Rachel Bright, Steven Bright, Dr. Joshua Bowers (wife Cindy), Sara Angell (husband Cristain), Rachel Stuart (husband Richard) Jarred Angell and Lauren and Nathaniel Jones; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Brooks of Marion; mother-in-law, the Rev. Mary Erwin of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Antioch United Methodist Church in West Frankfort with the Rev. Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro and from 12 p.m. to the time of service at 1 p.m. Monday at Antioch United Methodist Church in West Frankfort.
