---- — James C. “Jim” Thomas, 68, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Friday, May 4, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Clifford Foster Thomas and Mildred Eunice (Jones) Thomas. He married Connie Stevens on Aug. 27, 1967, in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him him death on June 23, 1997. He married Carol (Rogerson) Pyle on Jan. 2, 1998, in Mt. Vernon.

Jim graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and was a pharmacist at Marco Pharmacy in Mt. Vernon for 40 years. He loved golfing and was a member of Mt. Vernon Rams Football Chain Gang. He was a man of strong faith and a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Thomas of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Jamie Wheeler and husband Jay of Mt. Vernon; two stepdaughters, Andrea Allen of Geneseo and Beth Guest and husband Carl of Lake Geneva, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Emily Wheeler and Drew Wheeler, Anna Madigan and Grace Madigan, Thomas Allen, Katelyn Guest and Haley Guest; brother-in-law, Roger E. Rogerson and wife Judy of College Park, Wash.; mother-in-law, Susie Stevens of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law, Martha Miller of Mt. Vernon; and nephew, Matt Miller of Mt. Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and one brother-in-law, Jim Miller.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Interment will be at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
