Genieve R. Thomas, 86, formerly of McLeansboro, died 10:05 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at The Fountains 1 Assisted Living in Granite City.
She was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Jackson County, the daughter of Albert and Lillie May Fann Irvin. She married Ralph Eugene Thomas on Oct. 9, 1948, and he preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and attended Hopewell Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Ralph Eugene (wife Elizabeth) Thomas of Dover, Tenn., Michael Joseph (wife Marilyn Kaye) Thomas of Granite City and Steven Lee Thomas of Mascoutah; one daughter, Marilyn Denise Townzen of Madison; seven grandchildren, Ralph Eugene Thomas III of Pontoon Beach, Michael Joseph Thomas II of Dover, Tenn., Michelle Renee (fiance Jack) Odom of Bonterre, Mo., Jennifer Nicole (husband Mark) Seagle of Oakville, Mo., Donna Kaye (husband Jason) Wernsman of Granite City, Margaret Angela Bailey Thomas of Mascoutah and Tonya Dawn (fiance Kevin) Bennett of Dayton, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillie Mae Irvin and one sibling, Amy Lee Fann.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
