Laura Biggerstaff Riser, 72, of Decatur and formerly of McLeansboro, died 5:47 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
She was born June 8, 1941, in McLeansboro, the daughter of Arthur and Jenny (Lasater) Biggerstaff. She married Sylvester Riser on April 3, 1960, in Bartonville; he survives in Decatur.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Tamara Sue Murphy of Eldridge, Iowa; a son, Terry Lee Riser and wife Gretchen of Forsyth; four grandchildren, Chuck and Chris Murphy of Eldridge, Iowa, and Alexis and Aiden Riser of Forsyth; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Riva Murphy; four brothers, Manuel Biggerstaff and wife Laura Jane of McLeansboro, John Biggerstaff and wife Sharon of Woodlawn, Lowell Biggerstaff and wife Linda of McLeansboro and Dale Biggerstaff and wife Brenda of Dale; five sisters, Mary Ruth Parr of McLeansboro, Florene Dutton and husband Russ of Mt. Vernon, Alice McKinney and husband Darrell of Belle Rive and Wanda Sledge and husband Morris of Mt. Vernon; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Cecil James, Donald Eugene, Claude Jr., Ralph and Wesley Biggerstaff; and three sisters, Mildred Faye Biggerstaff, Dorothy Russell and Evelyn Dee Allen.
She was a day care director. She was a member of Forsyth Baptist Church in Forsyth. Laura operated a daycare center out of her home for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Abbott and the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery south of McLeansboro.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
