---- — Juanita Carrasco Walls, 87, of Deland, Fla., and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Deland, Fla.
She was born June 14, 1926, at the home of the mid-wife in Leon Valley, Texas, to Marciano and Flora Carrasco.
She is survived by three daughters, Olga Carrasco Rocha and husband Elesao of Juaraz, Mexico, Minerva Carrasco Manriquez and husband Lorenzo of El Paso, Texas, and Donna Lee Walls of Deland, Fla.; two sons, Miguel Tercero and wife Vickie of Mt. Vernon and Mark A. Walls and wife Charla of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Leonardo Carrasco of Midland, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby brother, Marcianito Carrasco who died at birth; and special friend R. Leben Garrison of Mt. Vernon.
Her paternal family was from the State of Chihuahua, City of Ojinaga, Mexico.
Juanita worked at the Farrah Clothing Factory in El Paso, Texas, prior to coming to Mt. Vernon. She worked as a housekeeper for numerous families in the Mt. Vernon area and was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Junita loved animals and this trait was passed along to her children as well. She enjoyed the outdoors such as trips to Garden of the Gods, visits to her family “back home,” and working in her flower beds. She was a wonderful woman who was cherished by all who knew her. Juanita loved the Lord and her church family.
At the request of Juanita, her remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Lohman Funeral Home in Deland, Fla., are in charge of arrangements.
