---- — Mary E. J. Dethrow, 90, of Sand Springs, Okla., died 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at her home in Sand Springs, Okla.
She was born Thursday, Feb. 28, 1924, in Kell, the daughter of Colonel Irwin Heflin and Cecil Eugenia (Perdue) Heflin. She married Clinton Ray Dethrow on Dec. 1, 1971, in Pensacola, Fla.
During Mary’s early years, she was a teacher and later an insurance broker. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband Clint and being a homemaker.
She is survived by husband, Clinton Ray Dethrow of Sand Springs, Okla.; son, Charles Howard and wife Cyndy of Sand Springs, Okla.; two grandsons, Jim Howard and wife Beth of Sand Springs, Okla. and Jeff Howard of Sand Springs, Okla.; great-grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Howard of Sand Springs, Okla.; great-granddaughters, Aleecia and Ashlee Howard of Sand Springs, Okla.; stepson, Clinton Ray Dethrow and wife Terry of Salem, Ore.; and three nieces and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Irwin Eugene “Gene” Heflin and wife Rose and John Heflin and wife Evelyn; and one sister, Virginia B. Heflin.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Entombment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
