Corporal Elmer VanHoorebeke, Jr., 27, of Palm Springs, Calif., passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident.
Junior was born to Elmer and Betty VanHoorebeke in Mt. Vernon. He attended Waltonville Elementary School. Not long after Junior finished high school in Texas, he started working for the city of College Station. He first started there Sept. 19, 2005 and left Oct. 10, 2010. When he joined the military. Junior enjoyed many various activities such as camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his brothers and friends. Every time Junior came into town, he also spent time with his niece and nephew; he loved taking them to the zoo, the park, movies and just being able to play with them.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Alberta VanHoorebeke and William Mount; his uncles, Billy Mount and Donald Patterison; his aunts, Alice Patterison and Sandra Mount; and his cousins, Skye Dickey and Joshua Mount.
He is survived by his parents, Elmer and Betty VanHoorebeke; his grandparents, Leroy and Theresa Odle; his brothers, Corpal Nicholas VanHoorebeke, Bradly VanHoorebeke and Eddie VanHoorebeke; his sisters, Jamie VanHoorebeke, Rebecca Sage and Debbie Swan; and his seven nephews and one niece.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the College Station Memorial Cemetery, 3800 Raymond Stotzer Parkway, College Station, Texas.
