---- — Robert Morris, 88 years and nine days, of Mt. Vernon, died at 1:34 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.

He was born April 3, 1926, in Charlestown, Ind., a son of Robert S. and Ruth (Montgomery) Morris. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Bierbaum) Morris for 64 years. They were married on Oct. 1, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Louisville, Ky. She survives in Mt. Vernon.

He was a loving father to his son, Richard Morris and wife Diane of Mt. Vernon; to two daughters, Rebecca Raney and husband Rob of Mt. Vernon and Robin Holding and husband James of Springfield; a dear grandfather and great-grandfather to Craig Raney and wife Ashley of Jackson, Mo., Christopher Raney and wife Ashley of Bloomington, Macie Morris of Decatur, Mariah Morris of Mt. Vernon and Justin Holding of Springfield; to great-grandchildren Embry Raney of Bloomington and Cason Raney of Jackson, Mo., all of whom filled his heart with love, joy and pride. He is also survived by two sisters, Jerry Morris of Clarksville, Ind. and Dorothea Jenkins and husband Guy of Clarksville, Ind.; two brothers, Arthur Morris of Clarksville, Ind. and Phillips Morris and wife Donna of New Albany, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; three sisters, Lucille Lynch of Jeffersonville, Ind., Irene Woosley of Richmond, Va., and Ruth Houser of Jeffersonville, Ind., a brother, Harold Morris of Jeffersonville, Ind.. a brother-in-law, Kenneth Bierbaum and his wife Janie of Silver Lake, Tenn., preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Father John Iffert officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Full military honors will be conducted by Ernie Collins, chaplain of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 at the cemetery.

Visitation was held 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Bob entered into service with the United States Army Air Corps on July 7, 1944. He was honorably discharged at Fort Meade, Md., on Oct. 16, 1946.

Bob worked in hardware sales for over 40 years. First, he worked as a sales representative for Belknap Hardware in Louisville, Ky. After working for Belknap Hardware, he took a job with Curtis Industries in Eastlake, Ohio, until his retirement.

Bob was an avid Cardinals fan. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking. He enjoyed camping and fishing trips with his family. He also enjoyed taking cruises with family members and playing double pinochle.
