Landon Rowe

MT. VERNON — — Landon C. Rowe, 85, of Mt. Vernon, died 12:30 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at his home.

He was born Saturday, Aug. 14, 1926, in Lookout, Ky., the son of Landon and Lola (Coleman) Rowe. He first married Lillian (Clotine) Rowe on Dec. 13, 1946, in Pikeville, Ky. She preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1993. He later married Paulina H. Hughes on Dec. 27, 1995, in Mt. Vernon. She preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2006.

Landon worked as a mining supervisor for Inland Steel. He served in the United States Army from Nov. 11, 1944, to Aug. 28, 1946. He was a member of the Waltonville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9153 and was also a member at Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Becky Clark and husband Stewart of Mt. Vernon; son, Bruce G. Rowe and wife Lise of Nibley, Utah; stepdaughters, Sherry A. Shields and husband Harry Lynn of Largo, Fla. and Michelle E. Robinson of San Diego, Calif.; grandchild, Lacey Clark and fiancé Nicholas Decker of Carbondale; brothers, Franklin Rowe of Allen, Ky. and James Rowe and wife Rhea of Richmond, Ky.; sisters, Winifred Bates of Lexington, Ky., Shirley Green and husband Dr. Lawrence of Lexington, Ky., Mary Whitten and husband Denny of Presstonburg, Ky., and Nancy Rowe of Lexington, Ky.; sister-in-law, Irene Rowe of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife; sister, Billie Jean Rowe; brother, John Rowe; sister-in-law, Gleema Rowe; brother-in-law, Carnis Bates; and second wife, Paulina.

Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with Rev. Paul Widicus officiating. Full military rites and flag presentation will be conducted at the graveside by the Mt. Vernon American Legion  Post 141. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
