Duane Badgett

---- — Duane R. Badgett, 85, of Granite City, passed away at 1:42 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga.

He was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, a son of the late Wilton Dewey and Bessie (Eller) Badgett. He married Mona “Eileene” (Whitsell) Badgett on Dec. 5, 1944, in St. Louis, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2011.

He retired in 1989, from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after many years of dedicated service as a carman. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a life member of the AMVETS Post 204 and the American Legion in Granite City, a member of the Transportation Communications International Union since 1943 and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Granite City.

He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Bill and Susan Badgett of Dallas, Jerry Badgett of Granite City, Scott and Tana Badgett of Maryville, Jeff and Barb Badgett of Granite City and Bradley and Kim Badgett of Granite City; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Wilson of Mt. Vernon; and other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wilton “Bud” Badgett and one sister, Peggy Hall.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday with Chaplain Jim Donahue officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and may be accepted at the funeral home.
