Ruby Clifton

---- — Ruby M. Clifton, 100, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at the Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1913, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Mosie E. and Mable M. (Hook) Scrivner. She married Herbert E. Wilkerson; he preceded her in death. She married Howard J. Clifton on April 28, 1954, in Olney; he preceded her in death on April 26, 2002.

She is survived by two daughters, Myrna Rodgers of Mt. Vernon and Armentha Jones and husband Richard of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Renee Maddison and husband Doug of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Brent Jones and wife Kellie of Sammamish, Wash., Tracy Maxedon and husband Glen of Mt. Vernon and Michael Rodgers of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Angela Muir and husband Matt of Kansas City, Mo., Andrew Manis of Nashville, Tenn., Molly Rodgers of Mt. Vernon, Tonya Maxedon and Ashley Sweetin and husband Matt of Mt. Vernon; five great-great-grandchildren, Allie, Jaxon and Megan Sweetin of Mt. Vernon and Max and June Muir of Kansas City, Mo.; a stepson, Howard Gene Clifton and wife Celeste of Mt. Vernon; two stepgrandchildren, Scott Clifton and wife Pam of Mt. Vernon and Mary Jane Richard and husband James of Mt. Vernon; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley Paige and husband Benjamin, Elisabeth Clifton, David Clifton, Tyler Weston and Nicole Richard; a stepdaughter-in-law, Donna Clifton of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Clara Behrens of Sandwich; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a brother, Vernon Scrivner; and a sister, Vivian Anderson.

Ruby was a homemaker and member of Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Marty Mills officiating. Interment will be at Williams Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Logan Street Baptist Church Building Fund or to Hospice of the Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
