Goldia Hale

MT. VERNON — Goldia Brockett Hale passed away at 8:06 a.m. Jan. 30, 2013, at the Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

She was born Dec. 8, 1922, in West City, Franklin County, to Lillie Jane (Smith) and Fred Brockett.

Goldia married Walter H. Hale on Dec. 24, 1941, in Benton, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1976.

She is survived by her son, Tom and wife Paulette of Springfield; her daughter, Donna Morris and husband Wayne of Dahlgren; her three surviving grandchildren, grandson Mark Hale of Streamwood and two granddaughters, Julie Hale-Miller and husband Greg of Chatham; Lyndi David and husband Kelton of Waterloo; five great-grandchildren, Erin Hale and fiance Bill O’Donnell, Kaitlyn Hale and Jessica Hale, all of Schaumburg and Quincy and Elizabeth Davis of Waterloo; one sister, Lou Dean Smith; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Brockett; one brother-in-law, Don Lankford, all of McLeansboro; a special niece and family  Connie Miller; a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Joan Pigg.

She was not only preceded in death by her parents and husband, but by her special grandson, Matthew Hale Lueke. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Robert and Buneda Brockett, Carlton Brockett and Fred Brockett; two sisters, Hazel and Cecil Phelps and Beulah Lankford; and a brother-in-law, Dick Smith.

Goldia dearly loved her church, where she was very active throughout the years. She was a member of the Star General Baptist Church, the Emma Phelps Women’s Ministries, the Twilight Home Extension Unit, a charter member of the Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was an avid bowler. She worked as a physical therapist technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and also as a home health aide.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Star General Baptist Church on Route 142 South in Eldorado. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Durham Cemetery in Hamburg.

Memorials may be made to the Star General Baptist Church Building Fund or the Matt Lueke Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements for Goldia Hale are under the direction of Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
