Wilma Hapeman

---- — Wilma Irene Hapeman, 89, of Woodlawn, died 12:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Thursday, June 19, 1924, in Jefferson County, the daughter of James H. and Mary (Benjamin) Whitsell. She married Addison Hapeman on Dec. 24, 1946, in Jefferson County. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1993.

Wilma worked as a registered nurse at Murray Center for 25 years before retirement and helped her husband farm. She was a devout Christian woman who was a member of Fouts Christian Church in Centralia and considered the other members of that church community her own family. She taught Sunday School there for many years. She was widely acclaimed throughout the state as an amateur botanist. Wilma was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Hapeman and wife Patty of Salem and Bruce Hapeman and wife Brenda of Woodlawn; six grandchildren, Nolan Hapeman, Sara Parrish and husband T.J., Mallory Hapeman, Jayson Hapeman, Sean Horn and Amber Horn-Illum; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Max Parrish.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Diane Hapeman; three brothers, Ted Whitsell, Lyman Whitsell and Frank Whitsell; three sisters, Lela Scovil, Elsie LaGesse and Stella Draege; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Scrivner.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fouts Christian Church in Cravat with Mr. Jerry Wilson officiating.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fouts Christian Church in Cravat.
