---- — William Edward “Bill” Mayo, Jr., 80, of Mt. Vernon, died 3:27 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Monday, Jan. 2, 1933, in Mt. Vernon, the son of William Edward Mayo, Sr. and Vera (Sechrest) Mayo. He married Theresa Louise Piercy on March 12, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1995.

Bill owned and operated Mayo’s Cycle Service, one of the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle repair services in Mt. Vernon. Later he owned and operated L&M Trucking Company. He was also a welder, a heavy equipment mechanic and was employed by Ray Black Construction Company in Mt. Vernon until retiring. He was a lifetime member of the King City Dirt Riders and a member of the Mt. Vernon Elks (B.P.O.E.) Lodge 819.

He is survived by two sons, Ron Mayo and wife Estella of Mt. Vernon and Randy Mayo and wife Marsha of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Sharanah Lipps and husband Chet of Mt. Vernon, Damon Mayo and wife Emily of Opdyke, Nicholas Mayo of Opdyke and Bryce Mayo of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Hallie Mayo, Kaycen Mayo, Madyson Lipps, Gage Lipps and twin great-grandchildren expected soon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Bob Mayo and Charlie Mayo.

In honor of Bill’s wishes, he will be cremated and a gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
