Virginia June Richard, 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, 2012, at White Oak Rehabilitation and HCC in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Richard was born in Mt. Vernon on July 23, 1932, the daughter of Renzo and Nellie (Summers) Rainey. She married Wayne E. Richard on Jan. 23, 1948, in Johnston City and he survives.
Mrs. Richard loved to dance and was a self taught piano player, playing by ear. She loved to sew, go to church, ride motorcycles and playing with her grandkids. She also enjoyed traveling. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Richard is survived by her husband, Wayne E. Richard of Mt. Vernon; children, Wayne L. Richard and wife Lorena of Mt. Vernon, Elaine Carlton of Benton, Debbie Dunavan and Larry L. Hodges of Mt. Vernon and Gina Kabat of O’Fallon; grandchildren, Brianna Richard, Sarah Richard, Jared Richard, Tara Tolley St. George and husband Brad, Aaron Carlton, Brett Carlton, Darrell Dunavan and partner Tannet Thomason, Devin Conner and husband T.J. Conner and Dena Kabat and fiancé Joe Haubrich; great-grandchildren, Hayden DuBach, Levi, Joel, Benjamin, Kharissa, Gabriel, Gideon and Eden St. George, Alissa Dunavan, Cassidy Dunavan, Ashlyn and Jay David Conner, Joseph Haubrich, Gianni Haubrich, Angelo Haubrich and Drina Haubrich; sister, Eva Knob of Enterprise, Ala.; brothers, Robert Rainey of Mt. Vernon, Cletus Rainey of Mt. Vernon and Leland Rainey of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Joe Robertson; stepdad, Clyde Robertson; and by her grandparents who helped raise her, James and Annie Rainey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Richard will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
