In college and after he worked with local architect Clarence Wilson; he soon joined with Jake Gatewood to form Gatewood and Fields, Architects, which later became Clifford R Fields & Associates (after the passing of Jake Gatewood). Vernon Savings and Loan Association, Mt. Vernon Airport Authority, YMCA and The Economic Development Board. Cliff was selected as a founding trustee of the John R. and Eleanor R. Mitchell Foundation and served until his retirement on the board of the Mitchell Museum. Cliff was also a past president of the Economic Development Board and the local Ham Radio Club. He was a Jaycee, a Mason, a Shriner, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and past president of Rotary International. After his many years of dedicated service, he was honored with and awarded the status of Senior Saint.
