Freddy DeJesus, 72, of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
He was born Nov. 12, 1940, in Puerto Rico, the son of Juan and Rosario (Pagan) DeJesus. He married Esther Bateman on Dec. 10, 1987, in Mt. Vernon, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, Mr. DeJesus is survived by a daughter, Patricia Fields of Mt. Vernon; a son, William Fields of Dix; four grandchildren, William Fields Jr., Amy Meeks, Cornia Dawn and Richard William Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Marc Meeks, Natalie Warren, Liam Avery Fields and Irie Fields; a brother, Carlos DeJesus of Florida; three sisters, Mary Mazo of Palm Springs, Fla. and Judy DeJesus and Meta DeJesus, both of New York; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Regina Fields.
Freddy was a Vietnam war veteran, was a welder, was a janitor at the Mt. Vernon Christian School in Mt. Vernon and was a school bus monitor.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Revs. Tim Reynolds and Ron Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Waltonville.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the DeJesus family and will be accepted at he funeral home.
