Melvin Lee Moore, 87, of Woodlawn, died 9:05 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Heartland Assisted Living Center in Breese.
He was born Friday, Aug. 27, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Melvin and Lillie M. (Kirk) Moore. He married Jean Russell on Oct. 5, 1946, in Henderson, Ky., and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2012.
Mel was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was senior vice president of Zenith Television Corporation in Northbrook.
He is survived by his son, Monty Moore and wife Julie of Woodlawn; daughter, Sherrie Moore of Carlyle; five grandchildren, Paula Hutcherson of Conway, Ark., Michael Moore and wife Aurora of Aurora, Colo., Scott Moore and wife Julie of Mt. Vernon, Benjamin Lucich of Carlyle and Dawn Owens and husband Terry of Anderson, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Rebecca Hutcherson of Conway, Ark., Mikaelah Moore and Matthew Moore of Aurora, Colo. and Zane Owens and Channing Owens of Anderson, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Richard and Kelvin.
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Kirk Cemetery in Ina with Pastor Josepha Lecke officiating. Those wishing to attend are to go directly to the cemetery. Interment will be at Kirk Cemetery in Ina.
There will be no visitation.
