Mrs. Livera “Laura” Virginia Johnson, age 96, of Mt. Vernon, departed this life Friday, July 12, 2013, at 8:10 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
She was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Hopkinsville, Ky. Her parents were Reese and Agnes L. (McGavock) Withers.
Mrs. Johnson worked in the domestic field and was a member of the Corinthian Baptist Church.
She was married to Pete Johnson on Jan. 26, 1957, in Hopkinsville, Ky. and he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2002.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Emma J. Johnson of Hermitage, Tenn.; son, Ronald E. Johnson of Centralia; granddaughter, Danielle R. Dobbs of Hermitage, Tenn.; two grandsons, Matthew E. and Joshua A. Johnson of Centralia; great-granddaughter, Isley of Hermitage, Tenn.; niece, Peglyn (Withers) McClelland and husband Rev. Alfonso of Henderson, Ky.; Margaret (Robert) Harris of Mt. Vernon; and a special caretaker and friend, Robin Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, George L. Withers, Oscar M. Withers and Reese Withers, Jr.; and her only sister, Gladys J. Kindel.
Services will be held at 12 p.m. today at the Corinthian Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Lash officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
