Juanita F. Burkett, 77, of Bluford, died 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Saturday, July 27, 1935, in Pocohontas, Ark., the daughter of Lawrence Wilburn and Lucille Bell (Eaton) Ball. She married William Burkett on April 16, 1962, in Lincoln; he survives in Bluford.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Ed Burkett of Alabama, James Burkett of Albion and William Burkett and wife Jane of North Carolina; a daughter, Juanita Bigley and husband Wayne of Bluford; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Beth Walker and husband Bill of Tennessee and D.J. Cox and husband Fred of Ohio; a brother, Harold Ball and wife Maryann of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lawrence Burkett; and a grandson, E.J.
Juanita worked as a factory worker and a homemaker. She immensely enjoyed reading and was of the Baptist faith.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
In honor of Juanita’s wishes, she will be cremated following visitation services.
