Delia (Pratt) Sprehe, age 93, of Mt. Vernon and a former resident of Centralia, sadly passed away 5:50 a.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
Delia was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Old Mines, Mo., a daughter of Columbus and Daisy (Boyer) Pratt. She married Clarence H. Sprehe on Sept. 1 , 1951, in St. Louis; he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1991.
Mrs. Sprehe is survived by her daughter, Jane (Shaw) Gibson and her son-in-law whom she adored, Larry D. Gibson of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Burnham Pratt and wife Evelyn of Cadet, Mo., and Clarence Pratt and wife Margaret of St. Louis. In addition, she left behind many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Although she had only one daughter, she loved all of Jane’s friends just like they were her children. She also had two very special people in her life, Dennis Shaw of Centralia and Brian Mooney of Mt. Vernon, who both brought her great joy.
Before she was married and a Marine Corps wife, she worked at Brown Shoe Company and Prince Gardner factory in St. Louis; after her husband retired from the military, she worked at Wheaton Plastics in Centralia.
She loved traveling with her daughter, who was a TWA flight attendant, and took many trips both domestic and international, one of her favorites being to the Vatican in Rome. She also was an avid loyal St. Louis Cardinal fan since she was a young woman who watched all of their games on TV and occasionally was able to make a trip to Busch Stadium which really made her day.
She lived her life as a kind, caring, loving, generous and compassionate lady who loved people and adored her family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herbert and Rolla Pratt; two sisters, Ellen Portell and Myrtle Goff; and one very special niece, Sheila Pratt, whom she loved dearly.
