Ella Mae Duncan, age 78, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:55 p.m. Monday June 30, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Henderson, Tenn., a daughter of James and Mattie (Robinson) Brashers. She married Billie “Boogalou Bill” Duncan Nov. 28 1998, and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2010.
Mrs. Duncan worked at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon until her retirement. Ella was a member of the Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and a past member of the New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
Ella is survived by her three sisters, Ruby Freeman of St. Louis, Annie Donals and husband Samuel of Humboldt, Tenn. and Mattie Fly of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, James Haynes and wife Sherry of Columbus, Ga. and George Fly of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Anthony Brown of Mt. Vernon and Edward James Johnson of Milwaukee; three great-grandchildren, Tyreece Brown, Kamisha Johnson and Kiara Johnson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kameyah Aniya Talley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Edward James Brown; one brother, Robert Haynes; and sister, Betty Dance.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church (1024 Newby, Mt. Vernon, IL) with Elder Eric Dance and the Rev. Cleo Holt officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 9 until the funeral hour Saturday morning at the church.
