Russell Wayne “Shottie” Bullock, 71, of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:51 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Sept. 23, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, a son of Russell and Maxine (Jones) Bullock.
He is survived by a son, Scott Bullock and wife Keyma of Columbia; three grandchildren, Dylan and Sydney Bullock of Columbia and Reid Whitaker of Scottsdale, Ariz.; stepson, Kevin Whitaker and wife Angie of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Pamela Sue Bosch and husband Steve of Tucson, Ariz; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rick Bullock.
“Shottie” graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School, Class of 1960. He was previously employed by Dowzer Electric. He was a former deputy sheriff in Galveston, Texas, and he retired from the Ashley Police Department. He was instrumental in reviving the Kingsmen Car Club of Mt. Vernon and was currently serving as the club’s vice president.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be in the Cahpel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
