Bro. Gene Fox, 77, of West Frankfort, died 4:15 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin.
He was born Aug. 29, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, to Guy C. and Mabelle (Neville) Fox. He married Mary Alice Foutch on Jan. 12, 1957, and she survives.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the pastor at First Christian Church in West Frankfort for many years. He also pastored throughout his life at many different churches. Gene was devoted to his church family and leading people to Christ. He loved music and quartets. Gene was a song evangelist, school teacher and loved to coach. He also loved sports and was a member of the Lions Club in West Frankfort.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Fox of West Frankfort; one son, David (Amy) Fox of Bloomington, Ind.; three daughters, Gena (Brian) Woodard of Carbondale, May Lou (Garry) Smith of Rantoul and Diana Dart of Robinson; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy David (Ellen) Fox, Daniel Gene Fox, Meredith, Emily and Blake Woodard, Matt, Kyle, Dennis and Trisha Smith, Ryan (Beth) Dart and Ethan Dart; and five great-grandchildren, Allison Rose, Camron, Conner, Christopher and Layla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, K. Fox; and sisters, Maxine Gallagher, Elaine Jones and Myra McGrew.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in West Frankfort with Pastors Mont Mitchell, Jason Ishmael and Adam Foutch officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the church.
